'Lack of urban planning hampers power supply'

Most Karachiites have dealt with power woes as long as they can remember - and these appear to only have gotten worse in recent years.

At a conference on Thursday, titled 'Future Summit,' featuring sessions with representatives from government, banks, large-scale manufactures and the like, K-Electric CEO Syed Moonis Alvi highlighted the urban planning challenges faced by utility providers.

"With two-thirds of Karachi unplanned and riddled with issues including power theft, densification and encroachment, it is important for all stakeholders to come together and address these issues so that Karachi can shift from merely being resilient to being a thriving and prosperous city living up to its economic potential," said Alvi.

He maintained KE was undertaking expedited investments across the power value chain and had a Rs260 billion capacity-building plan for the next three years.
