Labourer commits suicide due to financial woes
A 35-year-old labourer committed suicide by consuming poisonous black stone in Chichawatni on Wednesday.
The deceased identified as Mumtaz Ahmed, son of Mahmood Ahmed Sahu and a resident of Chak No 104/12L, was married three months ago.
Reportedly, Mumtaz owed millions of rupees his lender due to alleged wasteful spending among his family circle.
Repeated harassment by the money lender also led to a tension environment and frustrations at his home. A few days ago, on November 11, after a quarrel in the house, the wife of the late Mumtaz tried to consume poisonous black stone.
On knowing this, Mumtaz stopped and persuaded his wife not to commit suicide. However, due to his grievances, he later consumed the remaining confiscated poisonous black stone himself. He was initially treated at home but when his condition worsened, he was rushed to a local welfare hospital from where he was shifted to a hospital in Sahiwal after first aid due to his critical condition.
He died in the wee hours of the day after being treated there for a few days.
Okanwala Bangla SHO Rana Imtiaz Noon said the family of the deceased had not informed the police about the suicide.
