Work on PMT to commence next year
The provincial government will start work on the Peshawar Model Town project from next May.
This was announced by the Khyber-Pakthunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan on Tuesday as he chaired a meeting to review the progress made on the proposed housing project in the provincial capital.
To speed up work on the project, Mahmood directed to commence work on simultaneously acquiring the requisite land, feasibility consultancy, engineering design and other critical processes for the project.
Earlier, participants of the meeting were briefed that the project will consist of 23 different zones covering 180,000 acres. A feasibility study and identification of a suitable site for the project have been completed.
Some 81,000 residential plots of varying sizes, an educational complex, medical and sports complexes and other allied facilities will be built in the model town. The project will also reserve a segment for a media enclave and public offices.
Regarding land utilisation of the project, it was informed that 50 per cent of the total land will be reserved for residential purpose, five per cent for commercial and parking, 12 per cent for green spaces and parks, 23 per cent for roads, eight per cent for public buildings while the remaining will be reserved for a graveyard and other essential requirements of such a large society.
