Jilted lover ‘murders’ woman

Victim was picking cotton in the fields when accused shot her after a foiled kidnapping attempt

CHICHAWATNI:

A female labourer was al legedly murdered by her lover in Chichawatni on Sunday.

Police said labourer Mismat Rashida Bibi, 22, a resident of Chak No 34/12L, was engaged in cotton picking in the fields along with other women when her estranged lover Ghulam Mustafa, a resident of Chak No 40/EB, Buriwala, came to the fields on a motorcycle.

The accused allegedly grabbed her by the arm and dragging her in an attempt to kidnap Mismat.

Rashida resisted the bid and reacted by screaming, which caught the attention of the other women working on the spot.

The local people in the fields began to gather to foil the kidnapping attempt on which the accused became deranged and allegedly fired at the girl.

As a result of the incident, Rashida sustained serious bullet injuries and eventually died on the spot.

The accused fled the scene while reportedly waving his weapon.

Upon receiving the information, Shahkot police station SHO immediately reached the crime scene. Police took the body into custody and shifted it to a hospital for postmortem.

A case had been registered against the accused on the complaint of the victim's father, Mohammad Akram, and started searching for the accused.
