KARACHI:

A local court rejected the police's request on Friday to change the status of an electrocution case to C-Class and instead changed the case challan into a chargesheet against the accused. The South judicial magistrate was hearing the case pertaining to Faizan, who died by electrocution in Defence Housing Authority in August, at the Karachi City Court. K-Electric Chief Executive Officer Moonis Alvi, Amir Zia and two others are nominated as the accused in the case, according to the police. During the hearing, the police submitted the case challan after completing the investigation and declared Faizan's death to be an accident. The challan also claimed that Faizan's family had withdrawn their demand for action against KE. The police requested the court to dismiss the case and declare it C-Class. However, the court observed that Faizan was electrocuted to death at a KE substation, which had no gate or security arrangements to keep citizens out. The court rejected the police's request and changed the case challan into a chargesheet against the accused. Faizan, 19, had been visiting Karachi from Mansehra when the incident occurred. His family had claimed at the time that he stepped into water carrying current outside the sub-station and died on the spot.
