City police gear up as PSL V resumes
The Karachi police have devised a security planning for the coming days as Pakistan Super League V matches resume in the city from today (Saturday) after being postponed due to the pandemic in March.
The traffic police have also made alternative arrangements for traffic, with certain roads blocked during the matches. Domestic and foreign cricket players will be in the metropolis, and according to the police spokesperson, arrangements have been made for police contingent to be deployed outside their hotels.
Law enforcement agencies will also be on duty near the National Stadium and along the routes leading from the hotels to the stadium. According to the traffic plan, the road leading from Sharae Faisal to Sir Shah Suleman Road via Habib Ibrahim Rehmatullah Road will be blocked for traffic on the match-days - today, tomorrow and Tuesday. Dalmia Road, from Millennium Mall to the National Stadium, will also be shut for the general public.
Besides, the road leading to the National Stadium from Liaquatabad via Hassan Square Flyover will also remain shut while University Road, leading to Stadium Road via New Town Mor, will be blocked. The traffic arrangements will also affect routes towards major hospitals on Stadium Road, though residents of the area will be allowed to enter by New Town police station. All heavy traffic will be restricted on roads leading from Sohrab Goth to Nipa, Liaquatabad 10 to Hassan Square,
Peoples Chowrangi to University Road, Karsaz to National Stadium and from Millennium Mall to New Town. Meanwhile, according to the police, 24 senior police officers, 59 deputy superintendents, 4,275 head constables and constables, 345 Rapid Response Force officials and 1,018 Special Security Unit commandos have been deployed, along with special branch officials in plainclothes. SWAT teams will also be on duty to address emergencies.
