Bollywood reacts to Asif Basra's untimely demise
Bollywood expressed shock and grief over the sudden demise of actor Asif Basra on Thursday. Basra allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Dharamsala.
Basra, known for his character roles in numerous films including Black Friday, Parzania, Jab We Met and Kai Po Che, died of suicide by hanging himself with a leash of his pet dog, the Superintendent of Police Vimukt Ranjan told IANS. “Asif Basra committed suicide today morning. The body has gone for post-mortem. It will be done tomorrow. There is no suicide note,” Ranjan said in an interview with The Indian Express.
As the news of his death spread on social media, colleagues and friends posted tributes.
Kareena Kapoor wrote, "Rest in peace Asif Basra. Heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones." Meanwhile Anushka Sharma mirrored Bebo's sentiments. "My sincere condolences and prayers with the family and loved ones. RIP Asif Basra," the Band Bajaa Baraat star shared.
Hansal Mehta added, "Asif Basra! Can’t be true… This is just very, very sad." Actor Manoj Bajpayee expressed. "What? This is too shocking!! Shot with him just before lockdown! Oh My God!'
Nawazuddin Siddiqui said, "It is unbelievable, yet another loss of a dear friend Asif Basra — gem of a talent and full of life personality. Rest in peace, my friend — more power to family." Nimrat Kaur wrote, "Prayers and thoughts with his loved ones…so shocked and saddened by this tragic news. RIP Asif Basra."
Randeep Hooda shared, "Rest in peace brother Asif Basra," while Tisca Chopra remarked, "hat a dreadful bloody year, another colleague gone. RIP Asif Basra. The heavens shall welcome your gentle soul and lead you to peace."
Nikitin Dheer said, "Extremely shocked and shaken to hear about Asif Basra. I have worked with him in two films. Always full of life. Very, very sad."
Ranvir Shorey shared, "Asif Basra was a warm, generous and exuberant co-actor and friend. He will be missed dearly. My heart goes out to his family and friends. RIP."

Actor Divya Dutta was shocked to hear about Basra's untimely demise. "We shot together for Hostages 2. Looked like such a happy free-spirited man! And was Such a fab actor! Rip Asif. This is hard to digest."
Film-maker Onir penned, "In shock. Can't believe that we have lost him. #asifbasra Used to meet him so often at the park jogging. He would tell me not to jog sideways, I might lose balance and hurt myself."
Rahul Dholakia shared, "Shocked to hear about Basra!! What a wonderful actor and a jovial fellow – I mean why would he? Very Sad – Had directed him in Parzania (Chagan), in Lamhaa (the Darzee) – and also in Society – Very sad to hear about his passing! Asif Basra, hope you are at peace."
