SEPA seals two steel melting furnaces
The Sindh Environmental Protection Agency's (SEPA) West district monitoring team sealed two steel melting furnaces on Manghopir Road on Wednesday.
According to a SEPA spokesperson, the furnaces have been sealed on grounds of causing pollution, on the orders of adviser to Sindh CM on law, environment and coastal development Murtaza Wahab and SEPA director-general Naeem Ahmed Mughal.
He said the SEPA monitoring team discovered that production activities at the furnaces were resulting in the emission of black smoke comprising harmful gases, damaging the environment and the health of nearby residents.
"Both units failed to comply with the environmental laws and lacked any mechanism to allay the harmful effects of emissions," the spokesperson stated.
