CM approves electric buses for Lahore

These buses will ply on six different routes covering 103kms distance

LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has given principal approval to plying green electric buses with directions to complete the relating matters as soon as possible.

Presiding over a meeting at his office on Wednesday, the chief minister asked Punjab Transport Department to submit detailed recommendations to initiate green buses project.

He indicated that these buses will ply six different routes around 103-kilometre long in Lahore while the service will also be introduced in other cities through public-private partnership.

The meeting deliberated on various procurement options. Buzdar highlighted that these green buses will also help in reducing environmental degradation and smog. The government will take every step to benefit the people, the CM added.

The meeting decided to reactivate the vehicle inspection and certification system to eradicate smog and the chief minister stated that the Lahore Transport Company will be converted to Punjab Transport Company.

He also gave principle approval to the recruitment of inspectors, sub inspectors and sergeants with the direction to improve cleanliness arrangements of the orange line metro train.
