City Bus Stand: Report sought on plea challenging shifting

Petitioner requested the court to issue directives restraining the government from shifting the bus stand.

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court on Monday sought a report and comments from the transport secretary on a petition challenging a proposal to shift city bus stand from Badami Bagh to two locations in Thokar Niaz Beg and Shahdara.

Petitioner Muhammad Tariq, a transporter, submitted that the shifting would result in loss of business for the transporters and cause inconvenience to thousands of commuters. He requested the court to issue directives restraining the government from shifting the bus stand. He said the government had yet to identify land for setting up bus stands in Thokar and Shahdara. He added that according to the proposal, instead of a single bus stand, two separate stands were to be established – the one in Thokar catering to commuters to areas falling south of Lahore and the one in Shahdara to areas falling north. Justice Kazim Raza Shamsi directed the transport secretary to file a report on the matter by August 12.
