ISLAMABAD:

In light of directives from the Supreme Court, the Islamabad Police on Tuesday issued a new handbook on modern techniques for effective investigation of criminal cases.

A copy of the handbook has been submitted to the top court as well.

The handbook includes guidelines on improving the investigation process, including relevant information on criminal law. The book is available in both English and Urdu.

The apex court had directed the Islamabad Police Inspector General (IGP) Aamir Zulfiqar Khan to compile a handbook within six months, outlining guidelines on how to improve investigation techniques, eradicate corruption and ensure punishment for perpetrators of different crimes.

The task was delegated to Assistant Inspector General-Establishment Kamran Adil. His team compiled the book with information such as how to collect evidence from a crime scene and investigate cases ranging from minor to heinous in nature. The handbook also provided details on how to change the investigation process in case of the non-satisfactory attitude of the investigation officer.

The IGP said the guidelines outlined will benefit investigation officers and improve their performance, adding that citizens may use it to learn how to tackle various issues as well.
