Complete boats’ registration at Keenjhar, orders court

SHC directs the relevant authorities to complete the construction of jetties and towers

The Sindh High Court directed on Tuesday the relevant authorities to complete the construction of jetties and towers and the registration of boats at Keenjhar Lake.

A two-member bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, was hearing a plea pertaining to safety arrangements at Keenjhar Lake.

Sindh Tourism and Culture Department director-general submitted a report stating that all arrangements, including the installation of CCTV cameras, establishment of a rescue centre and the availability of ambulances, had been completed at the lake. As per the report, the standard operating procedures for avoiding mishaps have also been implemented.

Sindh Tourism and Culture Department managing director Aijaz Shaikh further told the court that so far, one jetty had been constructed and three more were yet to be built. “Sign boards have been installed and boats will be allowed to sail as far as 2 kilomteres into the lake,” he added.

“After all these arrangements, no accidents should take place,” the court commented, directing the relevant authorities to complete all remaining arrangements at the earliest.

At another hearing, the court extended the interim bail of the accused in a case pertaining to the embezzlement of Rs4 billion from funds allotted for the relief of people affected by floods. The court extended interim bail of the accused till December 16.

Moreover, the court extended the pre-arrest bail of Pakistan Peoples Party leader Nisar Khuhro in a case pertaining to money laundering. Khuhro’s bail has been extended till December 17.
