'Downton Abbey' story lines are very similar to Pakistani dramas: Ushna Shah

Actor believes that if TV represents reality, Pakistan is 100 years behind the West

Pakistani actor Ushna Shah has developed a reputation for being very blunt on social media. The Bewafa actor has expressed her opinion on a variety of things from politics, to human rights to arts and culture.

In her latest tweet, Shah shared her thoughts on the content in Pakistani dramas. The actor beleives that to some extent they are indicative of the current social reality in Pakistan, which if compared with the developed world could be seen as something a '100 years behind'.

Comparing storylines of Pakistani dramas with that in British period drama Downton Abbey, Shah claimed that there are striking similarities between them. "So Downton Abbey storylines are very similar to Pakistani dramas. If art imitates life, this proves we live 100 years behind the west. I can't be the first to have noticed this?" she said.

Last month, Shah expressed excitement over a Pakistani-American newcomer being announced as the lead for Disney's upcoming series, Ms Marvel. Recalling her own experience in Canada, Shah noted that the announcement is a great thing for the next generation of girls sharing her ethnicity who want to break into Hollywood.

"What he said! I recall being five and told in Canada that there wouldn't be major roles for girls who looked like me (ethnic). I was shattered. This has made me so happy for the next generation of girls who DO look like me. Thank you," she said.
