PPP leader Khursheed Shah released on 96-hour parole

Shah has been granted ‘temporary authorised absence’ to attend funeral prayer of his niece in Sukkur

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) stalwart Khursheed Shah was released from jail on parole for 96 hours on Saturday.

According to a notification issued by the Sindh Home Department on the day, Shah was given temporary authorised absence from Sukkur Central Prison from Saturday to Wednesday, for a period of 96 hours excluding travelling time..

The parole was granted so that Shah could attend the funeral prayers and last rites of his niece in Sukkur. The notification added that the release is subject to him furnishing surety to the prison's SSP, while his security is the responsibility of the Sindh Police.

The PPP leader was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau in Islamabad on September 18, 2019.

According to a statement issued by the anti-graft watchdog at the time, he was taken into custody by the bureau's Sukkur chapter in an assets beyond means case.

The NAB has nominated Shah and 17 others, including his two wives, two sons, and a son-in-law, in a reference pertaining to making assets worth Rs1.23 billion beyond his known sources of income.
