Advanced cameras installed in Pindi
To enhance surveillance, particularly to tackle rising street crime, police in the garrison city have installed advanced closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras which can pan and tilt to follow criminals and to expand their field of view.
A Rawalpindi police spokesperson on Wednesday said that the cameras have been installed on the directives of City Police Officer Ahsan Younas to help with the surveillance of suspicious vehicles, people and other criminal activities in different areas of the city. They will also help monitor the flow of traffic, it said.
The cameras installed can rotate 360 degrees, are capable of night vision and zoom.
A mechanism has been established to monitor footage from these cameras around the clock in the integrated command and control room at the City Police Office. Backup of footage recorded by these cameras will also be saved.
Initially, these cameras have been installed around busy commercial areas including Dubai Plaza and Commercial Market.
CPO Younas said that the introduction of the latest technology will help improve policing in the form of surveillance and professionalism of officers.
He hoped that the installation of these cameras would keep a close check on criminal elements.
