Well-reputed people to sit on conciliatory committees

ISLAMABAD:

To make the conciliatory committees more participatory and to attract more people towards them, police in the federal capital has decided to engage people of good repute in them to help resolve issues of citizens more effectively.

This was directed by the Islamabad Police Inspector General (IGP) Aamir Zulfiqar Khan on Wednesday.

In this regard, DIG Operations Waqaruddin Syed was told to engage notables from various areas in the conciliatory committees set up at the police station level to help police resolve cases of petty issues.

These conciliatory committees have a mandate to settle different kinds of conflicts, including domestic, property, brawls, tenancy, transactions and trade. During the ongoing year, these committees received 1,204 applications of which 1,089 were settled while the remaining 115 are under process.

Of these, 371 applications were related to family matters, 196 to brawls, 154 to property disputes, 252 to trade or business matters, 105 to issues of tenants and 116 of miscellaneous nature.

DIG Syed was told that these committees have a total of 458 members, including women, who play a vital role in resolving issues of people with the help and cooperation of the police. He said that police are responsible for maintaining law and order and people should also cooperate with it to combat crime as well as anti-social elements.

Early completion of welfare schemes

During a visit to the Police Lines Headquarters on Wednesday, IGP Aamir directed the DIG Headquarters Muhammad Saleem to ensure the timely completion of welfare projects to facilitate police officers.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Headquarters Irfan Tariq and other officers were asked to improve the quality of the mess in the headquarters apart from ensuring the availability of doctors and medicines at the dispensaries to provide timely medical assistance to officers and their families.

“Provision of all possible facilities to the officers is the supreme responsibility of federal capital police,” the IG remarked.

He later reviewed the progress on construction of residential barracks and other schemes launched for the welfare of police personnel.

Special squads to direct traffic flow

The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has been directed to ensure the smooth flow of traffic on the main arteries of IJP Road, Srinagar (previously Kashmir) Highway and the Islamabad Expressway, while strict action will be taken against those creating inconvenience for road users.
