To emphasise the friendship between Pakistan and Turkey, the development authority of the district has decided to build a memorial on main Murree Road.
This was announced by the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Chairman Tariq Murtaza on Tuesday while reviewing work on development projects in the city.
Murtaza said that the monument will prove to be a reminder of the strong ties between Islamabad and Ankara apart from furthering efforts to further strengthen relations with brotherly Muslim countries.
The memorial’s designer briefed the RDA chief about the project. At this, Murtaza directed to complete the project as soon as possible, adding that it will be inaugurated by the Turkish Ambassador Mustafa Yurdakul next week.
He later visited Murree Road to inspect progress on the monument.
Meanwhile, the development authority has yet to make any progress on preparing a new master plan for the city, or on starting a housing scheme, constructing a sports complex, and two additional blocks of the Fawara Chowk parking plaza.
