Man accuses lawyers of thrashing him

Complainant says his ex-adviser has lodged several FIRs against him

LAHORE:

A man has accused a group of lawyers of thrashing him and tearing his clothes in a courtroom.

“The judge was not sitting in the courtroom when the lawyers locked it from inside, tortured me and tore my clothes, said Usman Javed, who is accused in a case.

He said the attackers had lost a legal battle despite lodging false FIRs against on various charges, including bounced cheque. He said he was also acquitted by an accountability court in a reference filed against him of Rs46. million.

Javed said he had reached the court on Saturday to mark his attendance in case proceedings but was beaten up by Advocate Syed Ijaz Hussain Sherazi, Khawaja Samiuddin, Muhammad Akmal and five unknown persons.

He said two police officials and a court staffer present in the room had tried to pacify the matter, but the attackers also recorded his video to humiliate him. He alleged that a lawyer had also threatened to kill him.

After half an hour, the door of the room was opened and he made a call on police helpline (15) and rescue (1122), he added. He was taken into the chamber of the judge who saw him in injured state, he said.

Javed told The Express Tribune that Sherazi had been his legal adviser but had later developed enmity with him and had lodged several FIRs against him.

The complainant said he had approached the Naseerabad police and lodged an FIR under sections 147, 149, 506, 337A(i) and 337F(i) of PPC, but the police had refused to include section 324 in the case.

However, Advocate Sherazi denied the allegations and said he himself was an aggrieved party as Javed had defrauded him of Rs750,000.

He said he along with others had approached the Model Town court when he saw one of the people accompanying Javed take out a pistol. He said that when he shouted for help on feeling threatened, some unknown lawyers who were present to appear in different cases, tried to catch the suspect. The armed man managed to escape but the lawyers caught Javed, who started abusive language.
