KARACHI:

Following threats received by the department, traffic police officials have been directed to wear bulletproof vests as they carry out their duties.

Traffic DIG Javed Ali Maher told The Express Tribune on Saturday that they had been receiving threats of attacks on traffic cops for several days.

According to DIG Maher, all SSPs had been directed to ensure the security of traffic cops present on the roads. Moreover, security is to be tightened at all traffic police offices.

"Traffic cops on the roads are the easiest targets and many have recently been martyred. Therefore, we have also sought assistance from the Sindh Police for security," he stated, adding that the police had been requested to deploy armed officers near where traffic cops were deputed.
