With 473 new infections, CM warns of virus surge

Sindh recorded nine more fatalities due to the coronavirus on Thursday, while another 473 infections were confirmed overnight. The provincial death toll rose to 2,620 and the total tally of confirmed infections hit 145,238, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's House on the day. The recoveries stand at 138,346.

The deadly virus is spreading rapidly again, warned CM Murad Ali Shah. A total of 11,504 samples were tested between Wednesday and Thursday and 473 new positive cases emerged, he said, adding that 293 of the new cases were reported in Karachi.

The detection rate has increased past two per cent and needs to be contained, said Shah.

There are currently 4272 confirmed active cases in the province. Of these, 4,044 are in home isolation, one is at an isolation centre and 227 are admitted in different hospitals, with the condition of 165 of them stated to be critical.

Of the new cases, 293 were detected in Karachi - 109 in East district, 99 in South, 32 in Central, 21 in Malir, 17 in Korangi and 15 in West district, while Hyderabad reported 35 new cases, Dadu nine, Sukkur seven, Badin and Mirpurkhas six each, Ghotki five, Matiari four, three each in Jacobabad, Larkana, Sanghar, Tando Muhammad Khan and Thatta and two each in Jamshoro, Shikarpur, Sujawal and Tando Allahyar.
