LAHORE:

The DIG Establishment has written a letter to the traffic police to call back the 128 wardens posted in Lahore Ring Road Authority.

According to the letter, the traffic wardens have completed the maximum period of deputation of five years.

Sources said the traffic wardens who went on deputation in 2012 were performing duty on Ring Road. According to sources, no traffic warden wants to return from the authority due to the attractive allowance received in the Ring Road Authority. In all, 324 traffic wardens, including 24 lady wardens, were sent on deputation to the Ring Road Authority in 2012.

The traffic wardens performed duty on Ring Road for two years. In 2014, the Ring Road Authority recruited 100 junior patrolling officers and as much traffic wardens, including some women, were sent back.

In 2016, the then CTO, late Mubeen Ahmed, called 73 traffic wardens back due to shortage of personnel.

According to sources, the junior patrolling officers recruited through the communications and works department are not authorised to impose fine on a vehicle on Ring Road. They can only perform patrolling duties in addition to providing assistance if there is any accident.
