Law drafted to empower jirgas in MTDs
The provincial government has drafted a law to address local issues through Jirgas in the merged tribal districts.
The proposed law is expected to be submitted before the provincial cabinet in its next meeting for approval.
This was disclosed during a meeting of the provincial task force on merged tribal areas. The meeting was chaired by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan.
The meeting was informed that the proposed law aims to resolve local issues through jirgas in the Merged Tribal Districts (MTDs).
The chief minister directed to expedite the process of compensation affected people of these areas under the Citizen Losses Compensation Package.
He also directed the provincial board of revenue to prepare a database of the land required for the establishment of government buildings in the merged tribal districts.
The meeting was brief about the progress on different uplift schemes in the merged districts. It was informed that three forest check posts have been established in South Waziristan to stop the theft of timber.
Similarly, land acquisition for the construction of judiciary and other government offices has also been started.
The meeting was informed that a model has been proposed for the outsourcing of health facilities in South Waziristan and a summary will soon be submitted for approval.
It was told that three police stations have started operating in Bajaur whereas another seven police stations are expected to start working within a month.
A Project Concept-I (PC-I) has been approved for the establishment of offices for the counter-terrorism department (CTD) and Special Branch of police in the Bajaur district.
