MULTAN:

Nishtar Medical University (NMU) Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr Ahmad Ijaz Masood said that 80 percent of the total amount allegedly embezzled by a clerk from the doctors’ salary has been recovered.

Dr Masood on Wednesday said the alleged accused computer operator Bilal who was dealing with salaries of House Officers (HOs) and Post Graduate Residents (PGRs) was under suspension from September after the scam came to light.

“A five-member inquiry committee headed by NMU Administration Director Dr Tariq Jamil was constituted to look into the matter,” he said.

Dr Masood added that other members included Nishtar Hospital Additional Medical Superintendent (Admin) Dr Rashida Anjumn, Budget and Finance Officer Farhan Saeed, one co-opted member and dealing assistant.

The VC voiced hope to recover the rest of the money soon.

He maintained that the concerned bank informed the NMU administration about the deposition of money in a single account for a long period.
