Priyanka Chopra recalls her mother's very 'desi mom' response to Miss World win
20 years ago, the now Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra won the title of Miss World. The former beauty pageant winner loves sharing throwback pictures of her big day every now and then. Priyanka recently took to Instagram and shared a video about how her family reacted on the day she bagged the crown on November 30, 2000.
Sitting side by side in the video, Priyanka and mom Madhu Chopra revealed unknown details from the moment that changed their lives in this new clip. “Miss World is Miss India: Priyanka Chopra!” Madhu Chopra remembered with a smile on her face, reported Hindustan Times. Then spoke about how the entire hall erupted with joy when Chopra's win was announced, with fans and supporters giving Miss World 2020 a standing ovation. Over video call, Priyanka's brother Siddharth also revisited the mixed feelings that came over him at that moment, when he realised that now, he would be the one going to the United States for further studies instead of his sister.
For Priyanka, however, one of the most interesting memories from the day was the moment when, in the midst of the claps, the happiness, the excitement, and the rush, her mother asked quite an unexpected question. "When I hugged her, I spoke the stupidest thing," Madhu Chopra elaborated. "Instead of telling her that ‘I’m so glad, so happy that you’re Miss World’, I said, ‘Babe, now what will happen to your studies?’” The hilarious - and super desi as well as relatable - mom moment made the duo chuckled.
