Public places around RCS to stay closed

Army, rangers and police will provide security for practice sessions, matches

To ensure stringent security in the wake of terror incidents in the country, the district administration has decided to seal the food street, markets and parks located around the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium for the period the Pakistan and Zimbabwe cricket teams hold their practice sessions and then play matches.

The closure of the food street adjoining the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium (RCS), the Allama Iqbal Park, the Rawalpindi Arts Council, the Shehbaz Sharif Sports Complex, and the Double Road from today.

All educational institutions, banks, hotels, and other shops in the vicinity will also remain shut during match hours.

Sources told The Express Tribune that both teams will start their practice sessions at RCS today (Tuesday).

During the sessions and matches, traffic on Murree Road will be diverted to Faizabad and Sixth Road.

Sources added the district administration is mulling a plan to limit the Metro Bus Service (MBS).

It added that three tiers of security have been set up inside the stadium which will be ensured by the paramilitary Rangers and Army while the police will provide security outside the stadium and its surroundings. The Elite Force will also remain alert to assist the police in an emergency.

Teams of Rescue 1122 will also remain on standby around the stadium to deal with any mishap.

The stadium will be thoroughly examined by sniffer dogs and the bomb disposal squad (BDS).

A ban on aerial firing, kite flying, and fireworks has also been imposed.
