Committee set up after missing journalist returns

After journalist Ali Imran Syed, who went missing on Friday night, returned home safe and sound on Saturday, the Ministry of Interior set up a joint fact finding committee to probe into the matter and furnish its finding identifying the causes behind Syed’s disappearance, on Prime Minister Imran Khan’s instructions.

The local TV channel for which Syed works reported that the senior reporter spoke to his wife via telephone and confirmed that he had reached his mother’s residence in Karachi.

According to the report, Syed left his home Friday evening after telling his family he would be back in half an hour, but did not for almost 22 hours. His wife said that his car was parked outside their home and her husband did not take his mobile phone with him.

The first information report (FIR) of his alleged abduction was registered on the complaint of his brother at Sachal Police Station against unidentified persons.

Sindh CM Syed Murad Ali Shah had also taken notice of the matter and called an emergency meeting where he ordered the police and Rangers to ensure the journalist’s early recovery.
