FIA-led committee to probe mysterious disappearance of journalist Ali Imran
A joint fact finding committee has been formed by the Ministry of Interior on “special instructions of Prime Minister Imran Khan” to probe into the alleged abduction of a Karachi based journalist.
Reporter Ali Imran Syed associated with a private news channel returned home safe and sound on Saturday evening almost 22 hours after he was allegedly disappeared from near his home in the metropolis last night.
The first information report (FIR) of his alleged abduction was also registered on the complaint of his brother at Sachal police station against unidentified accused.
“The committee will be headed by Additional Director General FIA Ehsan Sadiq and its members will include Additional IG Special Branch Sindh, Joint Director General IB Sindh and DIG East Sindh Police, Karachi,” said a statement issued by interior ministry.
The committee will ensure close coordination between federal and provincial governments to ascertain the causes behind the incident and furnish its findings, it added.
The statement said equal representation of both the governments in the committee has been ensured “so that input of all stakeholders is included in the report in a fair and transparent manner”.
“Prime Minister [Imran Khan] has always been very clear and unequivocal in the past as well regarding such matters and expressed his desire to ensure the rule of law in the country,” said the official communiqué.
