Cops awarded for foiling mugging bid

Video of four cops preventing muggers from looting a citizen in Gulberg went viral on social media

Karachi AIG Ghulam Nabi Memon awarded prizes and certificates to four policemen for foiling a mugging bid in Gulberg on Tuesday.

The cops awarded prizes include head constable Shahzad and constables Muhammad Shoaib, Abdur Rehman and Asif Zaman. Besides, he presented a certificate of appreciation to Gulberg SHO Farrukh Hashmi.

Head constable Shahzad, along with constables Shoaib, Rehman and Zaman, had caught two muggers red-hand while they were looting a citizen on Sharae Pakistan.

According to the police, two pistols, a motorcycle, cash and three mobile phones have been seized from the arrested men's possession.

A video of incident went viral on social media in which two muggers, on a motorcycle, were seen stopping by a man, also on motorcycle, by the roadside and looting him at gunpoint. As this happened, four policemen, on two motorcycles, were seen reaching the spot while patrolling and attacking the muggers.

As a result of the attack, the mugger riding pillion got off the motorcycle and ran off. In the video, policemen were seen chasing him as he narrowly escaped a traffic accident.

Later, SHO Hashmi said the mugger who attempted to escape had opened fire on police and sustained a wound in the abdomen, near navel, as a result of retaliatory firing. He, along with his accomplice, was arrested and a case was registered against them, the SHO added. According to the SHO, the injured mugger was identified as Arham, who was earlier arrested by the Bilal Colony Police and released on bail recently.

Speaking about the other mugger, the SHO stated that he was identified as Omar. He, too, was earlier arrested by the Samanabad Police in a drugs case, according the SHO.
