As the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) concluded its referendum, held as part of its Karachi Rights Movement, a commission led by former Attorney General of Pakistan Justice (retd) Anwar Mansoor Khan began compiling the results on Thursday night. The referendum, seeking due rights for Karachiites, saw 600 polling booths set up, as many as 9.5 million ballot papers published, and around 5.9 million ballots counted until the filing of this report. The initial results showed over 98 per cent of participants voting in favour of JI’s demands. According to Justice Mansoor, 847,911 online votes were also cast during the campaign, out of which 417,350 votes were from Karachi and many others from overseas.
