Nationalist parties protest: ‘We won’t accept lollipops’

6 Awami Tehreek women threaten to self-immolate on August 14 in front of Benazir Bhutto mausoleum in Garhi Khuda Bux.

HYDERABAD:

Hyderabad appeared to be taking the news worse than the rest. In a more drastic step, six Awami Tehreek women threatened to commit self-immolation on August 14 in front of the Benazir Bhutto mausoleum in Garhi Khuda Bux, Larkana.

“We will not accept this lollipop,” said  Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi. “We want the government to honour the laws passed by Sindh Assembly fifteen days ago,” he said, deriding the official celebration of the laws.

“Zardari deliberately opened a Pandora’s box by singing the songs of a Seraiki province in Punjab,” said Magsi while briefing the media after a meeting of SPNA. He condemned the ensuing demand from Punjab leaders for dividing Sindh. “Pakistan has 22 district based divisions. Does it mean we shall divide the country into 22 provinces?” he asked.

SUP’s president Shah Muhammad Shah claimed that the Sindhis would expel PPP ministers and members of parliament from their constituencies if the party did not mend its ways. Awami Tehreek’s Abdul Qadire Ranto added that his party would mourn for two weeks. Dr Ranab Memon of the Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party said that the nationalist parties would meet in Karachi on Tuesday to decide a course of action.
