Protection centres planned for transgenders
A National Implementation Committee has been constituted to establish protection centres for people who are transgender to provide them shelter and medical and psychological care, an official said on Wednesday.
She said separate ward for transgender women was established at Pims on the intervention by the human rights ministry.
Members of transgender community feel uncomfortable in discussing their status with healthcare providers. The transgender community, due to discrimination of their basic right to access to healthcare facilities, are self-treating and self-prescribing medication, she said.
Health facility at Pims will help improve healthcare for the community.
Moreover, she said the rights ministry has drafted laws which will help protect rights of the vulnerable community.
