Pregnant victim was allegedly tortured for not bringing ‘desired’ dowry

SIALKOT:

A young woman was allegedly tortured to death by her husband and in-laws in the Muradpur locality of Sialkot on Monday.

Police officials said that the victim was brutally tortured for not bringing valuables desired by her in-laws when she was married off to the accused.

According to the police report, the victim identified as Sidra Bibi was married off to Ali Haider a few years ago. She became the mother of a girl and was expecting another child.

However, the accused Ali and in laws resorted to beating her often for not bringing their desired items as part of her dowry.

The FIR revealed that, on the day of the incident, the accused husband, father-in-law Muhammad Anwar, mother-in-law Shakeela Bibi, sisters-in-law Muqadas Bibi, Sadia and brother-in-law Usama Anwar brutally tortured the pregnant woman who succumbed to her injuries.

The neighbours called the police which shifted the body to a local hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, Sialkot District Police Officer (DPO) Hassan Asad Alvi said that Muradpur police registered a case against the accused husband and in-laws on the report of Amtal Hafeez, the mother of the deceased victim. The DPO further said that police arrested all the accused and sent them behind the bars.

Further investigation was underway.
