Businessmen and economists have called for strengthening public-private partnership to effectively address poverty in the country. Speaking at a webinar on Monday, Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Vice President Sheikh Sultan Rehman said political will and concrete efforts were required to reduce poverty. “Through industrial growth and promotion of other economic activities under public-private partnership, jobs can be created for the unemployed population, especially youth,” he said. “All segments of society must realise their responsibility towards the alleviation of poverty.” He added that the government alone could not reduce poverty, hence, it was the responsibility of private sector and civil society to work together for the alleviation of poverty. Former FPCCI vice president MA Jabbar said the available data related to poverty level in the country needed to be updated.
