Warehouse, factories catch fire

Flames erupt at a garment factory for the second time in a single day

KARACHI:

A warehouse and three factories caught fire in different parts of the city on Saturday and Sunday.

A timber warehouse caught fire near Iqra University in Baloch Colony. People present at the spot tried to douse the blaze on their own, but were forced to seek help from the fire department when they were unable to do so.

Three fire tenders arrived at the spot after being informed about the blaze and extinguished the fire, after which the cooling process started.

According to fire department officials, timber worth thousands of rupees was reduced to ashes in the flames, while the cause of the fire could not immediately be ascertained.

Meanwhile, two factories caught ablaze near Chamra Chowrangi in Korangi. Fire department officials stated that the first factory to catch fire was a coconut oil processing unit, while the other was a LED screen manufacturing company.

They said that two fire tenders were sent to each of the affected buildings to control the flames.

Moreover, a fire erupted at a garment factory for the second time in a day in New Karachi Industrial Area on Saturday night. Fire-fighters arrived at the spot with two fire tenders and launched efforts to douse the flames.

Fire department officials stated that the same factory had caught fire earlier in the day. While the first fire had been controlled at the time, flames erupted once again at night, they explained.

The last week has seen a spate of fires erupt at different locations across the metropolis, which fire department officials have attributed to the dry weather.
