SIALKOT:

Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Qaiser Iqbal Baryar has said that the SCCI has a policy of zero tolerance of non-compliance with labour standards in the area of child labour and other socially responsible labour practices.

Speaking as a chief guest at the Tripartite Plus meeting held on Saturday to promote social dialogue on best labour practices, he expressed satisfaction that the efforts made by the soccer ball industry in Sialkot for the elimination of child labour had gained global recognition.

He stated that Sialkot’s framework model for the elimination of child labour could be replicated in lower tiers of the supply chain and other industrial sectors.

He announced complete support of the chamber in ensuring full compliance with social and labour standards with zero tolerance of non-compliance.

Baryar disclosed that the Sialkot Chamber was going to set up a state-of-the-art skills university to meet specific needs of the Sialkot industry, which would fill the wide gap that currently existed in the technical education system of the country.

The meeting was organised by the Employer’s Federation of Pakistan in collaboration with the SCCI and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
