20 robberies reported in Kasur
At least 20 robbery cases were reported in Kasur in the last 48 hours, police said on Thursday.
Gold ornaments worth millions of rupees and other valuables were plundered from several places and people. Reportedly, robberies in Kasur have risen lately.
Police said five robbers stormed into a restaurant of Zulifqar near Kasur-Bhasarpura Bypass and took away cash worth Rs32,000, while six robbers entered the house of Azam in Attari Kahdian, Saraye Mughal and made the family hostage.
They looted Rs1.2 million, three tola gold and mobile phones. Later, they broke into a neighbouring house of Qasim and took away cash worth Rs100,000 and one-tola gold.
Moreover, four robbers snatched a tractor-trolley of Muhammad Abbas at Saddar Phoolnagar near Multan road, while seven robbers barged into the house of Abdul Sattar in Mutradaas and escaped after snatching 15-tola gold ornaments, cash worth Rs15,000, and other valuables worth Rs200,000.
After that, the same robbers barged into another house in the same area and took away cash worth Rs150,000 and two tola gold ornaments.
Besides, the police revealed that three dacoits intercepted a car of Shaukat Ali near Changa Manga canal and fled after snatching Rs50,000 cash and mobile phone.
Similarly, two thieves entered a building material store of Muhammad Hussain at Wattu Chowk near Chunian and deprived him of Rs300,000 cash and mobile phone.
Police said Ghulam Murtaza, a resident of Okara, was travelling to Lahore on his car when two robbers tried to intercept him on the way near Saraye Cheena and opened indiscriminate fire at him when the car didn’t stop.
Police said Murtaza sustained injuries while resisting the robbery bid. Rescue 1122 shifted the injured person to a hospital. Police started an investigation.
Traders and members of civil society have been outraged over the surge in robberies and said that the police have been unable to control the incidents and requested the Punjab government to take notice of surge in robberies.
