From commerce ministry: Briefing on trade policy sought

Terming trade policy an important aspect in the promotion of trade activities at local and global levels, the Senate Standing Committee on Commerce sought a detailed briefing from the Ministry of Commerce on the trade policy and e-commerce policy. The committee is set to meet on October 16 at the Parliament House. Committee Chairman Senator Mirza Muhammad Afridi observed that trade policy was the cornerstone of an economy and the committee was focused on formulating recommendations to promote trade and commerce locally, regionally and globally. The committee, he said, had also decided to seek briefing on an Indian application to the European Union for the registration of geographical indication (GI) tag for Basmati rice and the steps taken by the government of Pakistan in that regard. Other items on the agenda pertain to the import of Iranian apples and import of onions and tomatoes from neighbouring countries.
