ISLAMABAD:

Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the request of Lt Gen (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa for relinquishing the post of special assistant on information and broadcasting.

Bajwa, who is also chairman of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority, said in a tweet that he had requested the prime minister to remove him from the post of special assistant, adding that he was grateful that the prime minister approved his request.

“I requested the honourable Prime Minister to relinquish me from the additional portfolio of SAPM on Info & broadcasting. He very kindly approved my request,” Bajwa wrote on the microblogging website.

“I want to focus fully on CPEC projects,” he had said last month. “CPEC projects are the country’s future,” he had added. He had also said that he would submit his resignation to Prime Minister Imran Khan. “I hope the prime minister will allow me to dedicate my full attention to CPEC projects.”

However, Prime Minister Imran had rejected his resignation, expressing satisfaction with the evidence and explanation given by Lt Gen (retd) Asim Saleem Bajwa and asked him to continue working as his special assistant.
