Deadly road crash claims six lives in Vehari
At least six people were killed and 18 others injured when a speeding coaster collided with a tractor-trolley near Adda Ghulam Hussain on Multan Road.
Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to District Headquarters Hospital Vehari, where the condition of four of them was stated to be critical.
Police impounded the tractor-trolley and the coach and started investigations.
According to Rescue 1122 Media Coordinator Azeem Jutt, the coaster was on its way to Multan from Vehari when the tractor-trolley loaded with sand suddenly came onto the Multan Road near Adda Ghulam Hussain.
As a result of the collision, Khalid Iqbal, son of Muhammad Hussain, a resident of village 186WB, Nazir Ahmed, son of Alam Din, a resident of 66WB, Iqbal, son of Ata Muhammad and Khalda, wife of Mazhar, died on the spot. Two other people died during treatment at the hospital. However, their identities could not be confirmed till late in the evening.
The 18 injured passengers included Rahim Bakhsh, son of Ahmed, resident of Shams Colony Multan, Mohammad Yaseen, son of Amir Mohammad, resident of 100WB, Maqsood Ahmed, son of Mohammad Mushtaq, resident of Tiba Sultanpur, Ishrat, daughter of Shabir Dokota, Irshad Ali, son of Haq Nawaz, resident of Shujaabad, Mohammad Rehan, son of Wali Mohammad, resident of Multan, Mohammad Usman, son of Mohammad Aslam, resident of 14/15L Khanpur, Mushtaq, son of Wali Mohammad, resident of 9/11WB Vehari, Nawaz, son of Allah Bakhsh, Mohammad Anas, Mohammad Ansar, Mohammad Talha, Pasiran, Saman, daughter of Nawaz, resident of Qaimpur, Hina, wife of Abdul Sattar, resident of Madina Colony Vehari, Kausar Bibi, wife of Master Nazir Ahmed, resident of 66WB, and Muhammad Iqbal, son of Muhammad Anwar, resident of Multan.
Three unidentified passengers were shifted to the DHQ hospital in critical condition after immediate medical aid.
After the accident, MNA Tahira Iqbal Chaudhry and former general secretary of local bar association Chaudhry Shehzad Nawaz advocate assisted rescue workers and police in shifting the injured to the hospital. Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Waqas Rasheed and District Police Officer (DPO) Ahsanullah Chauhan visited the hospital and met the injured.
The hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Fazil Hussain and Chief Executive Officer Dr Anjum Iqbal were also present on the occasion.
The officials directed the hospital management to provide all possible medical treatment to the injured. The accident was so severe that the front portion of the coaster was destroyed and the injured were taken out after cutting its body.
Thangi police took the coach and tractor-trolley into their custody and started investigations to ascertain the cause of the accident. Initial investigation showed that accident had happened due to carelessness of the drivers.
