Sindh IGP dismisses 13 cops over smuggling

Sindh police chief Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar dismissed 13 Sindh Police personnel on Thursday after charges of them being involved in smuggling were proved.
The IGP also issued a written order in this regard, revoking their reinstatement on the Hyderabad AIG's orders following their initial dismissals.
On October 17, 2019, it was recommended during a meeting of the Anti-Smuggling Steering Committee, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, that action be taken against Sindh Police personnel involved in smuggling.
Following the meeting, three departmental inquiries were initiated against cops accused of being involved in smuggling. The inquiries were headed by the Sindh special branch DIG, Korangi SSP and East district SSP.
They released a report after completing the inquiries, identifying cops guilty of the offence. Consequently, the Hyderabad DIG dismissed 13 cops. However, the dismissed personnel were reinstated after they appealed to the Hyderabad AIG. The latter, keeping aside the serious offences they were proven guilty of committing, reposted them on September 7.
Taking notice of the matter, the Sindh IGP nullified the Hyderabad AIG's decision and once again ordered the cops' dismissal, stating that they were removed from their posts after serious allegations were levelled against them. He added that the accused police officials had tarnished the police force's image in the public eye and were being dismissed.
