Sharif fires fresh salvo at ‘selectors’ of PM Imran

‘Selectors’ should tell why did they impose Imran on the nation, says PML-N supremo

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif has urged “selectors” to overthrow the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan, accusing it of destroying the country’s economy and making people’s lives miserable.

“Today, people are dying of hunger… the prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed… he [PM Imran] has made the lives of people miserable that they cannot even afford two meals a day,” he said while addressing a virtual convention of PML-N parliamentarians and ticketholders on Thursday.

“Selectors should tell why did they impose him [PM Imran] on the nation and the people will not rest until they get the answers from [selectors],” he added.

The former prime minister also alleged that those who brought Premier Imran into power were “responsible” for the prevailing crisis in the country, including inflation and increasing poverty.

"Who should I hold responsible for this? Just Imran Khan or those who are really responsible?" he asked his party workers.

Nawaz also vowed to continue his “war” against “selectors” until he “got rid of them”.

The ousted premier said that during the opposition’s all-party conference (APC) last month he spoke about the “grass root” issues of the country without mincing his words.

Nawaz, broke his long time silence during multi-party moot declaring that his struggle was not against PM Imran but those who had brought him into power in the 2018 elections, accusing military and other state institutions of meddling into political affairs.

“Those who transgress their authority are handful… but they have spoiled the image of the entire institution and that is not acceptable to me," the PML-N supremo said.

"I respect my soldiers and generals, but I cannot respect those who do not respect the Constitution, who rig elections," he added.

Nawaz, who is in the British capital for treatment of his undiagnosed illness, has been declared a “proclaimed offender” after his refusal to return to Pakistan to serve out a seven-year jail-term handed down to him by a court following his conviction in a graft case.

A day earlier, the Islamabad High Court had initiated the process of declaring convicted ex-PM Nawaz proclaimed offender and ordered National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to print ads in London newspapers and also put up notices outside his residences asking him to surrender in one month.
