The Sindh Environment Department has been directed to expedite the environmental protection agency (EPA) study of the Taung Block in Jamshoro, where the Mari Petroleum Company (MPCL) is to start an exploration for which licenses have been acquired.

Addressing a delegation of the MPCL at the Chief Minister's House on Friday, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah issued these directives.

The delegation briefed Shah and apprised that exploration licenses for Taung Block have been acquired. The block stretches over 151 square kilometres of land.

MPCL has applied for a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the EPA, and the environment department has initiated its process. Shah directed his Advisor on Environment Murtaza Wahab to expedite the process. The exploration would fetch around Rs2.95 million in royalties in case of discovery.

The meeting concluded that the exploration would create job opportunities and lead to development in the area. The company assured Shah that area residents would be given preference for skilled and unskilled jobs.

The delegation included MPCL managing director Faheem Haider, general manager Brigadier Obaidur Rehman and general manager Tufail Khoso. Along with Wahab, principal secretary to CM Sajid Jamal Abro, energy secretary Musadiq Ahmed Khan, and others attended the meeting.
