ISLAMABAD:

The government has identified certified wheat seeds for the first time to make country wheat secure, said Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam.

Chairing a meeting of the Wheat Review Committee on fixing the minimum support price and to discuss other related issues on Wednesday, the minister said 150,000 tonnes of seeds had been tested by the Punjab Food Department for emergency needs.

The committee decided that all provinces would send proposals for the support price of wheat as soon as possible and later the minimum support price would be approved by the Economic Coordination Committee. The Federal Seed Certification and Registration Department mentioned that this year 515,000 tonnes of seeds had been certified and for backup, the department tested 200,000 tonnes more from the Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Supplies Corporation.
