The provincial government has decided to restore the flood-damaged 4.2-megawatt Reshun hydropower station apart from completing work on the ongoing power projects at the earliest in the Chitral district.
The floods, which wreaked havoc in the district, had destroyed the 2.4 megawatts (MW) power plant.
This was disclosed by the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (PEDO) Secretary Power and Energy Naeem Khan while speaking to the media on Tuesday.
The PEDO chief engineer informed that work on the 69MW Lowai hydropower project was halted due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, however, the project has been directed to resume the construction work within 10 days.
He said that the provincial government is taking measures to complete the power projects in the stipulated time while emergency measures have been taken to increase power generation in the province to meet the shortfall.
The official added that all hydropower power schemes, initiated by PEDO, will be executed and no delay will be tolerated in this regard, he said.
The secretary directed the relevant officers of PEDO to work day and night to restore the Reshun power station soon. He assured the Chitrali people that all efforts would be made for the early restoration of Reshun HPS. He said the government was actively working for the completion of cheap energy projects in Chitral.
