First year college admissions open in Karachi

BSEK students may submit admission forms online; others can approach College DG's office

The admission process for first year admissions in public colleges and higher secondary schools in Karachi begins today (Saturday), announced the Sindh Education Department's Directorate of Colleges on Friday. Applications will be accepted till October 6.

As in recent years, prospective students can submit or download their admission forms through the Sindh College Education website, said Colleges Director-General Prof Abdul Hameed Channar.

Alternatively, students without internet facilities may submit their forms at any government college near them, according to Channar. Principals have been directed to provide such facilities without any charges, and help desks for new students have been set up at each government college, he said, adding that this way they can avoid visiting the offices of the director-general or regional Directorates of College Education.

However, the online facility for admission form submission is only available for students who have cleared matric exams under the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK), specified Channar.

Students of the Cambridge System, Technical Board, Aga Khan Board, Federal Board and other boards in the country or those who cleared matric equivalent courses at foreign institutions, can get the forms from the office of the Colleges DG, Karachi, or the Sindh College Education website.

The completed forms have to be submitted to the Colleges DG's office, located at Sharae Liaquat near Urdu Bazar, along with photocopies of the mark sheet. The forms may be submitted in person, through post or via email, said Channar.

According to him, 87,641 students were granted first year admission at government colleges in Karachi last year. This year, around 116,340 seats are open - 54,810 for boys and 61,530 for girls.

Channar advised students to read the information on the website with regards to the application process and information pertaining to colleges before filling out the forms. They can also visit the Sindh College Education Department's Facebook page for more information, he added.
