‘Sindh govt has betrayed rain-hit people’

PTI leader says displaced persons remain under the open skies even a month after rains

HYDERABAD:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary leader in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh has blamed the provincial government for forsaking flood- and rain-affected people in the province.

Talking to the media in Sujawal on Friday, Sheikh said almost a month had passed since the last torrential monsoon downpour, but displaced people continued to spend their days under the sky, left high and dry by the authorities.

"The provincial government has ignored and, indeed, betrayed them," he maintained, pointing out that even the rainwater had not yet been drained from the submerged villages and agricultural fields, precluding the rehabilitation process of the affected people.

"The Sindh government has even failed to provide the tents to the displaced people," he lamented.

Furthermore, during his visit to Golarchi in Badin district, Sheikh criticised provincial agriculture minister Ismail Rahoo for failing to come to the aid of the thousands of men, women and children who have been driven out of their abodes due to flooding.

"Shaheed Fazil Rahoo [Ismail's father] was a respected name in Sindh, but in his son's constituency, the situation is still grim," he stated. According to him, seven union councils of Golarchi taluka remained inundated by floodwater. Meanwhile, Sheikh credited his party's federal government for providing rations and tents to the affected people.
