Counter terrorism department (CTD) Civil Lines officials claimed on Thursday to have killed a target killer, who gunned down a cop in Jutland Lines, during an encounter in Gulistan-e-Johar and taken weapons found in his possession into custody.

According to the CTD, they were informed of his presence in Gulistan-e-Johar's Pehlwan Goth area and carried out a raid for his arrest in the wee hours of Thursday. However, in a bid to escape the arrest, he opened fire on the police party, CTD officials said, adding that he was then killed in retaliatory firing.

The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Noman alias Naveed alias Nomi, was a former worker of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London, CTD Civil Lines in-charge Raja Omar Khattab told The Express Tribune.

He said Noman had gunned down a 52-year-old cop, ASI Ghulam Muhammad Gujjar, in Jutland Lines on July 23, 2020 before fleeing with his weapon.

The deceased cop was a resident of Lines Area and deployed at Artillery Maidan Police Station.

After his killing, South DIG Javed Akbar Riaz had told The Express Tribune that ASI Gujjar was standing by a paan cabin when the killer had approached him and asked whether he recognised him. The ASI was about to reply when the killer opened fire on him, shooting him once in the face and once in the chest, the DIG said, adding that the culprit then took Gujjar's weapons and fled on a motorcycle with his accomplice.
