FIR registered against Anurag Kashyap

The film-maker is accused of sexually assaulting actor Payal Ghosh back in 2013

Mumbai police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against film-maker Anurag Kashyap after a female actor named Payal Ghosh accused him of sexual misconduct in 2013, an official said on Wednesday, reported Hindustan Times.
The FIR was registered at Versova police station late on Tuesday night, after the starlet, along with her lawyer Nitin Satpute, approached the police, the official said.

According to the details, the report has been registered under Indian Penal Code Sections 376 (I) (rape), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 342 (wrongful confinement). Further investigation is said to be underway. Kashyap will be called for questioning in connection with the alleged seven-year-old incident, the police official added.

In her complaint, Ghosh alleged that the Gangs of Wasseypur director raped her at a place on Yari Road in Versova in 2013.
Ghosh and her lawyer had earlier on approached Oshiwara police station but were asked to go to Versova as the alleged incident took place under its area of jurisdiction, the official said.

Satpute, in a tweet late on Tuesday night said, “Finally, FIR has been lodged against accused for the offence rape, wrongful restrain, wrongful confinement and outraging modesty of woman.”

Last week, Ghosh, during an interview and a subsequent tweet, accused Kashyap of sexually assaulting her. The latter subsequently denied all these claims in a series of tweets, deeming the accusation as "an attempt to silence him."

Multiple women from the industry, including his ex-wife Kalki Koechlin, have come out to support the Sacred Games director. “In the personal and professional space, you have always seen me as your equal. You have stood up for my integrity even after our divorce and you have supported me when I felt unsafe in a work environment even before we got together,” Koechlin wrote in his defense.
