Suspects in connection with firing incident at Meera's performance arrested
Roughly a week back on 12th September, unidentified men had opened fir outside Sabeena Theatre in Faislabad, where Lollywood actor Meera was performing a show. A similar incident happened last night as Meera took the stage at Starlet Theatre in Multan with unidentified men firing outside.
In connection to the former incident, the Faislabad police have already arrested four criminals. The suspects arrested are identified as Adil Awan, Shoaib, Asad and Sami. According to the police, the suspects have been involved in robberies and extortions, and they opened fire to damage the reputation of the cinema. The arrested suspects have been shifted to the jail while further investigations are underway.
“These culprits stayed at a guest house in Murree. The factory area police arrested them. Adil Awan, Shoaib, Asad and Sami Ullah are among the culprits that were arrested and police is currently interrogating them,” a police official told The Express Tribune.
Given the quick succession between the two incidents, Meera and her family are currently worried about their safety. “This is a tough situation for all of us as it seems that someone is trying to damage Meera's reputation. Meera however is a brave person and she wants to fulfill all of her commitments in Multan. Even during the Faislabad incident, Meera did not leave the stage and kept performing. We request the government to take notice of the matter,” a family member of Meera said.
The Baaji star has started carrying out theatre performances ever since things normalised after the lockdown. Earlier on she had complained of financial distress and had requested the Punjab government for aid. The actor had sought Rs 40 million, claiming that her financials were in dire straits.
Her request was subsequently denied by the authorities in question. The authorities had maintained that at the time they could only offer Rs 5000-10,000 to her.
