Anurag Kashyap’s lawyer says Payal Ghosh is using #MeToo for 'vested interests'

The 'Gangs of Wasseypur' director was accused of sexual assault by the Indian actor

Actor Payal Ghosh in a recent interview and a subsequent tweet accused Bollywood director Anurag Kashyap of sexually assaulting her reported Hindustan Times.

"Anurag Kashyap has forced himself on me and extremely badly. Prime Minister Modi, kindly take action and let the country see the demon behind this creative guy. I am aware that it can harm me and my security is at risk. Please help," Ghosh said in a tweet.

Kashyap subsequently denied all these claims in a series of tweets, deeming the accusation as "an attempt to silence him". Following this, the Gangs of Wasseypur director's lawyers released an official statement denying all allegations leveled against him.

The statement goes on to say that Kashyap has been hurt by the false allegations of sexual misconduct against him. It further states that the allegations are malicious, dishonest and using a social movement like #MeToo as a tool for character assassination and is opted by vested interests. It then alleges that fictitious allegations undermine the movement and trade upon the trauma of real victims.

Meanwhile, numerous Bollywood celebrities have come out in support of Kashyap. Among them are Gulshan Devaiah, Sayani Gupta, Mahie Gill, Radhika Apte, and others. However, a few others like Kangana Ranautare backing Ghosh.

The Manikarnika actor recently indulged in a war of words with the filmmaker on Twitter. That is when he sarcastically asked her to go and fight China at the border following which she asked him to participate in the Olympics.
